Weight stigma is the discrimination faced by people on the basis of their weight. This is also referred to as sizeism, anti-fatness, and anti-fat bias. The aim of the Central Lancashire End Weight Stigma project is to enable us — the people of Central Lancashire — to heal from, dismantle, and prevent weight stigma in our local healthcare system. We want to talk to people in Central Lancashire who have experienced weight stigma, about their experiences with health services, and bring them together to share their experiences with each other. If you would like to share your experiences and connect with others, please email Stella at endweightstigma@centrallancashire.co.uk.
We provide a point of contact for people in Central Lancashire who have experienced weight stigma, so that they can connect with and support each other.
We are collecting people’s accounts of weight stigma in Central Lancashire, so that we can understand its causes and effects, and take informed action. Read more about Our research.
My name is Stella Aster. I’ve lived in Leyland, Central Lancashire for over 20 years, and I’m a PhD student at Leeds Beckett University. I am the founder and current caretaker of the Central Lancashire End Weight Stigma project 😊 I started this project because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity for a happy and healthy life, and I want to understand and dismantle health discrimination in all its forms.
If you have any questions, or would like to get involved with or contribute to the project, please contact Stella Aster at endweightstigma@centrallancashire.co.uk. We are particularly interested in hearing directly from people with lived experiences of weight stigma.
